They turned out to be grounding issues. Bread-boarding the logic board and removing as much ground shielding as possible may reveal surprising results. If it's just lines, I'd look at the thin cable that joins the LACD to the video controller on the laptop's motherboard. If that cable is loose or damaged, it would create problems on the LCD that wouldn't show up on the CRT.
